MagSafe is a power connector for Apple laptops. The MagSafe connector is held in place by magnets, so if someone accidentally touches the cord, it will detach easily and safely for the laptop. The pins on the MagSafe connector are designed so that the rectangular connector can be inserted in any orientation. During charging, the indicator on the connector lights up orange, when the charge is full – green.
In mid-2012, Apple changed the power connector standard. The new connector is called MagSafe 2. The characteristics of the power supplies remain unchanged, the new connector is very similar to the previous one, but is not mechanically compatible with it.
The new generation of Apple laptops, introduced in late 2016, uses USB-C instead of MagSafe 2.
